Pixelating turns part of an image into large, blocky squares — the classic way to hide a face, a document, or any sensitive detail while still showing that something was there.
Common uses
Hide faces
Obscure a bystander's face before posting a photo publicly.
Hide documents or screens
Block out a visible ID card, document, or screen in the background.
Redact sensitive info
Cover a number plate, address, or account number in a screenshot.
How to do it
- 1Drop your image into the box above — a moderate pixelation is applied by default.
- 2Check the before/after preview.
- 3Open “Adjust manually” to make the blocks bigger or smaller.
- 4Download the result.
Questions
Is pixelation permanent — can the original be recovered?
With strong enough pixelation, no — the fine detail is genuinely destroyed, not just hidden. Light pixelation on high-resolution originals can sometimes be partially reversed, so when in doubt use a stronger setting.
Can I pixelate just part of the image?
This tool pixelates the whole image. To redact one area only, crop that area out, pixelate it, and recombine in a design tool.
